Meta ad image sizes and specs for Facebook and Instagram
For a Facebook Feed image ad, Meta lists a 4:5 ratio at 1440 x 1800 pixels (minimum 600 pixels wide), JPG or PNG, up to 30 MB. For Stories and Reels use a vertical 9:16 image, commonly built at 1080 x 1920, and keep text and logos away from the top and bottom of the frame.
Facebook Feed image ads
Meta's ads guide for Facebook Feed image ads lists these specifications (checked 11 October 2026):
| Aspect ratio | 4:5 (tolerance 3%) |
|---|---|
| Recommended resolution | 1440 x 1800 pixels |
| Minimum size | 600 pixels wide, 750 pixels high |
| File type | JPG or PNG |
| Maximum file size | 30 MB |
| Primary text | Recommended 50 to 150 characters |
| Headline | Recommended 27 characters |
Stories and Reels
Stories and Reels placements are full-screen and vertical, so the ratio is 9:16. Common production sizes are 1080 x 1920 pixels, or 1440 x 2560 for extra sharpness. Exact minimums and limits change, so confirm them in the Meta ad preview before you upload.
Safe zones
Meta overlays the profile name, call-to-action button and other interface elements on Stories and Reels. A widely used rule of thumb is to leave roughly the top 14% and the bottom 20% of the frame free of text, logos and faces. Some guides recommend more room at the bottom. Meta's ad preview shows the real overlay for each placement, so use it to check your layout.
Instagram Feed
Instagram Feed supports vertical, square and horizontal images. A 4:5 image is the most commonly recommended choice because it takes the most room on screen. As with Facebook Feed, check the placement preview in Ads Manager.
One creative, several placements
If you only prepare one size, Meta may crop it for other placements and cut off text. Supplying a Feed version and a Story version avoids that. This is why every concept in our creative plans is delivered in both Feed and Story sizes, with the layout adjusted for each rather than just cropped.
Quick pre-upload checklist
- Right ratio for each placement (4:5 for Feed, 9:16 for Stories and Reels).
- Resolution at or above the recommended size, JPG or PNG, under the file size limit.
- Key text, logo and product inside the safe area.
- Primary text and headline within the recommended length so they are not cut off.
- Previewed in Ads Manager on each placement.
Source and caveats
Feed specifications are from Meta's ads guide for Facebook Feed image ads. Stories and Reels figures, and the safe-zone percentages, are common industry guidance rather than a Meta-published limit, so treat them as a starting point and verify them in the preview. Meta updates its specifications; if something here has changed, Meta's current documentation wins.
