What kind of work do you take on?

Marketing and creative work for businesses: strategy, design, content, advertising creative, social media and website work. If your project sits slightly outside that, tell us anyway and we will say honestly whether we are the right fit.

Who are the freelancers?

Experienced New Zealand professionals who have applied to join and been reviewed personally. Many take on select projects alongside their main role. We match people to your project based on experience, fit and availability.

How do you vet them?

We review work history, portfolio and work samples, and references, with any reference contact agreed first. It is a personal review of professional experience, not a criminal-record or identity-database check.

How does pricing work?

Project work is scoped and priced before anything starts, so you know what you are paying for. Ongoing ad creative is available as a monthly creative subscription with published plans.

What happens after I send a brief?

We read it personally and get back to you about scope, timing and next steps. Sending a brief does not commit you to anything.

I’m a freelancer. Can I join?

Yes. Choose “Join as a freelancer” in the form and tell us about your experience. You can apply with your name, or privately with an alias if you would rather keep your side projects separate from your day job. Applying does not guarantee acceptance or work.

A note on privacy.

Moonlighters collects the name or alias you give us, your email, location and either your project brief (budget, timing, deliverables) or, for freelancers, your private name if supplied, visibility choice, professional summary, recent work history, portfolio, relevant education and reference availability, plus the time you consented. Submissions are private and there is no public directory. For freelancers we review work history, portfolio and references; reference contact is agreed separately. Do not submit other people’s contact details or confidential material.

Authorised Moonlighters team members use this information to review your project or application and contact you about it and relevant opportunities. Your information is stored with Cloudflare and may be processed outside New Zealand. We do not sell your information. Freelancers who choose Black mode have their real name, employers and identifying history kept out of shared summaries; named mode permits your chosen display name in reviewed introductions. Both people approve before contact emails are released.

Submitting is optional. Required fields help us understand what you need. Black mode does not hide your submission from the Moonlighters team, and a new email does not make you fully anonymous. Cloudflare processes technical connection data to deliver and protect the site; your IP address is not stored with your submission.

We use Google Tag Manager to load Google Analytics and Google Ads measurement on this page. It helps us understand visits and count completed submissions. These Google services may set cookies and process device and browsing information, including outside New Zealand. We do not send your form answers, name, email address or phone number to them.

If you choose the AI assistant, your chat and draft project or work fields are sent through Cloudflare AI Gateway to Google Gemini to ask questions and draft your form. Your contact email and private-name fields are not sent. Identifying information you type into chat is processed by those providers. Gateway prompt/response logging and caching are disabled. Moonlighters keeps chat only in this browser tab’s memory, not its database; provider processing and retention follow their service terms. The written form bypasses Gemini. AI drafts do not make decisions; you review them before submission.

We keep submissions for up to 12 months unless you remove yours sooner or we agree to work together. Use the private link shown after you submit to delete your submission. To correct it, remove it and send it again. Deletions remove the active record; service backups may retain it temporarily under Cloudflare’s backup lifecycle.

Invited freelancers and clients can sign in to the member area using an email code sent by Cloudflare. It also stores editable profiles, project briefs, review notes, introduction approvals, notification preferences and activity records. The operator reviews these records; prospective matches see redacted summaries. Contact details are released only after both people explicitly approve. Minimal activity records are retained for up to 12 months.
