Freelancer, agency or creative subscription: which fits?

A freelancer suits one-off or highly bespoke work, an agency suits full campaign management and large budgets, and a creative subscription suits a steady monthly flow of strategic ad concepts at a predictable price. A subscription is not the right fit if you need video production, campaign management or a single hero asset.

Freelancers and agencies vary widely. The cells above describe typical patterns, not any specific provider.

When a freelancer is the better choice

  • You need one specific asset, such as a logo, a hero video or a brand refresh.
  • The work is unusual and needs a specialist you can brief directly.
  • You already have a clear strategy and just need execution.

When an agency is the better choice

  • You want one team to plan, buy, manage and report on campaigns.
  • Your budget and complexity justify a dedicated account team.

When a creative subscription is the better choice

  • You run Meta ads (or organic social) and need fresh concepts regularly.
  • You want a creative strategy behind the files, not just production.
  • You prefer a fixed monthly cost and no long contract.

When it is not the right fit

  • You need video production or photography. These are scoped separately.
  • You want someone to publish and manage your campaigns. That is a separate service.
  • You only need a single asset once.

Questions to ask any provider

  1. How many distinct concepts and finished files do I get each month?
  2. Is strategy included, or only production?
  3. How many revision rounds are included, and what counts as a new request?
  4. Who owns the final files?
  5. What happens if I want to stop?
