Ideas
Ad concept ideas for NZ businesses, by business type
Good ad concepts start from what makes your customer hesitate or act. Tradies can lead with before and after and fast quotes, cafes with place and signature items, retailers with new arrivals and offers, beauty and wellness with the experience and care, professional services with plain-English answers, and tourism with a single vivid experience. Each needs its own accuracy checks.
How to use this
Each idea maps to a concept role from our framework (introducer, scroll-stopper, problem / solution, before / after, objection handler, differentiator, social proof, offer). Pick two or three that fit, and write each as its own concept, not a variation. Everything must be true of your business.
Tradies and home services
- Before / after: a real job, with the customer's permission.
- Objection handler: "Fixed price quote, no surprises" or "We turn up when we say we will", if it is true.
- Offer: a free quote or a booking slot this week.
- Check: licences and registrations stated correctly; photos you have the right to use.
Cafes and hospitality
- Introducer: the place, the view, the neighbourhood.
- Scroll-stopper: one signature dish or drink, shot well.
- Offer: an event night, a seasonal menu, a function enquiry.
- Check: prices and hours current; allergen and dietary claims accurate.
Retail shops
- Scroll-stopper: new arrivals or a hero product.
- Differentiator: local, handmade, hard to find, if it is true.
- Offer: a limited-time promotion with a real end date.
- Check: stock and prices match the ad; trading hours over holidays.
Beauty and wellness
- Introducer: the space and the team.
- Objection handler: what a first visit is like, for nervous newcomers.
- Offer: an intro session or gift voucher.
- Check: avoid guaranteed results and health claims you cannot substantiate; get permission for before-and-after images and testimonials.
Professional services
- Problem / solution: a common question, answered in plain English.
- Differentiator: a specialty, a fixed-fee service or a clear process.
- Offer: a first consultation or a checklist to download.
- Check: professional body rules on advertising and on claims about outcomes.
Tourism and experiences
- Scroll-stopper: one vivid moment, not a list of features.
- Social proof: genuine guest reviews.
- Offer: a seasonal booking window or a local-resident rate.
- Check: weather, season and availability; accurate descriptions of what is included.
Whatever you sell
- Spell te reo Māori words and place names correctly, including macrons.
- Do not use images of people or places you do not have rights to.
- Test two or three concepts, not ten variations. See the simple creative test.
These are starting ideas, not results. We do not claim any of them will perform for your business.
